Apply to Join the True North Guardian Program and Get a Pup For Free
"We long for an affection altogether ignorant of our faults.
Heaven has accorded this to us in the uncritical canine attachment." ~George Eliot
There are so many wonderful people that would love to provide a loving, warm home for our beautiful AKC-Registered silver, charcoal, and yellow Labrador Retriever puppies. Unfortunately, for some, our prices are too high. To address this issue we're announcing a Guardian Program that we will implement in 2010. The Guardian Program enables lovely families living within five hours of Bristol, VA to get one of our puppies either for free or for very little money.
How It Works
A Forever Family takes possession of their puppy at 8 weeks of age with their puppy becoming a permanent member of their family. The puppy comes at no cost or at a greatly discounted price depending on our agreement. In return, the family allows their dog to become a part of the The True North breeding program.
You agree to keep the pup's records up-to-date, feed the puppy the food we give all our dogs, take the pup to the vet for a yearly exam and keep it on flea and heartworm prevention. Naturally, you also agree not to breed Labrador Retrievers or Labradoodles.
Why do we offer this? We are committed to have every breeding dog live as a pet in a home rather than in kennels (we have no kennels.) This allows us to expand our breeding program while allowing the pups to remain pets.
When a female is pregnant, she can return to our home for 6-7 weeks for each litter. Some families enjoy being part of the birthing process. We will train interested families to attend to pregnant and birthing females. We will also pay them to take care of the puppies. It is a huge responsibility and means that there must be someone home 24/7 during the critical early weeks of the life of the litter. We will compensate families willing to do drive the dog to and from Bristol or to other breeding related appointments.
After the puppy has had her litters by four or five years of age, we will sign over ownership of the dog to you when we have her neutered.
Forever Families need impeccable character references and should be permanently residing within five hours of Bristol, Virginia. We have three Silver/Charcoal litters planned for 2010. We also plan to have a very light yellow litter and a red litter sired by hunting champions. We hope to select two-to-four Guardian Homes next year.
