Puppy Delivery:  Is it Safe
To Fly Your New Puppy Home?

This is easily the number one question we are asked.  In our experience,  flying a puppy is very safe, IF you have an honest, caring breeder, and a great airline.  I personally would rather put my dog on a plane and get the trip over with, than put it on a van for a trip by land that could last many hours or days. However, we just sent a pup by a new land carrier who only charges $300.  Our customer, a fellow breeder, was very happy.

When Can the Puppy Go Home?

We pick the puppies in the order that we True North Labs receives deposits.  Once we have matched the right puppy with the right family, we make arrangement to fly the puppies to their new homes on Delta Airlines. Before the puppies leave here, they will receive a health certificate from our Veterinarian and will have had all age-appropriate vaccinations and wormings.

It is very important for the puppy to start bonding with his or her new family.  Unless they stay here for basic crate and obedience training, all puppies more than nine-weeks old will have a $4 deposit to remain at True North Labradors. We don't do that to torture our families, we do it so that the puppies get home during the window when they are most ready to train and to bond.

It is critical that you get your puppy around eight weeks of age.  Studies show that puppies are most open to training from six-to-twelve weeks of age.

True North Shipping Policy

Your entire balance must be paid before we make arrangements to fly the puppy to you. To save money, we will send you a link to purchase a crate for your puppy.  Just ship the crate to us after purchase.  We also do not mark up the flight. We will send the puppy to your airport COD.  You can take care of paying Delta Airlines directly when you pick up the puppy at your home airport.

The only extra expense is an Interstate Health Certificate mandated by the FAA, the cost of the visit to the vet, and, of course, the price of a crate.  We take your puppy to our vet and have him/her examined.  We will charge you exactly what our vet charges us without marking-up the invoice.

Red Carpet Service: True North Brings Your New Puppy Directly to Your Door

We will deliver the puppy to you at your airport or to your  home if you pay for our expenses for flight, miscellaneous transportation costs, and hotel.  Again, we will not mark-up expenses but pass them along at our cost.

The costs involved in getting the puppy delivered to your front door are as follows:

Cost of airline ticket for True North
Cost of puppy flying in the cabin instead of in the hold ($100-$150)
Crate ($50 or so)
Ground Transportation
Meals

The Process of Receiving a Puppy

On March 20, 2009, we received a new white lab from Mike Lankas.  This is the story of the day True North Annabelle joined our family.  It's a priceless example of what you should expect to happen when you go to the airport to pick-up a True North puppy.

It's 2:30 p.m. and our nine-week wait is over. The Delta ticket agent brings Annabelle out to us. They have already cleaned her and her cage. While my daughter steps in to see our puppy, I get out my identification to verify that the pup is indeed now ours.

Note: In large airports, you will often pick-up the puppy in baggage where they have a separate holding areas. In the largest airports the puppy may be in a separate facility on airport property. We will know all this before the puppy comes to you. The process has always worked smoothly.
We Love Delta Airlines's Treatment of Animals
Annabelle is our fourth Delta transported puppy. The staff is so kind to the animals. Here she is being welcomed to Virginia by the ticket agent.

When you pick up your puppy, check with the airline and be sure the puppy is on the flight. You will have a tracking number to do this. Our vet will decide what temperatures the puppy is safe in. Annabelle was rated from 44 to 84 degrees. If it had turned 85 degrees, Delta would (and have in the past) pulled her from the plane and moved her back into baggage.

You need to bring extra towels, a little dog shampoo, 409 or something to clean the crate, bottled water and your camera.
What Comes With Your Puppy
Here's the crate Annabelle came in. You will note the bag of food on top. The white packet contains her ticket information and her vet Interstate Health Certificate. She also has bottled water with her and lots of clean newspapers.

I will be mailing you an extensive puppy kit with pedigree, AKC registration information, copy of the pet contract, food and coupons, instructions, etc. We are always available to you by phone: 276-698-4361.
